about

I was watching an incredible documentary about World War II, called “World at War”, produced by the BBC in 1973. It is an epic, 26-part documentary covering the entire war in both theatres. While watching the opening of the documentary, it featured the French village of Oradour Sur Glane and it discussed how the town had been annihilated by the Nazis in June 1944. I am a fan of history and because this story was new to me and the atrocity so brutal, I felt that I wanted to share this atrocity so Oradour Sur Glane would not be forgotten.

lyrics

Oradura , I Barely Knew Ya
Wiped From The Map That Day
June, 10th 1944
Building Or Man Stood No More

Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Wiped From The Map In One Single Day

The Resistance Had Taken One Of Their Own
The SS Were Not Likely To Soon Forget
They Came Into Town On A One-Night Stand
When The SS Left, No Man Or Building Would Stand

Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Wiped From The Map In One Single Day

Women And Children Gathered In The Church
The Men And Boys Herded Into The Barn
Shots Rang Out – Their Aim Was Low
Meant To Wound So They Would All Die Slow

Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Wiped From The Map In One Single Day

Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Oradura, I Barely Knew Ya
Wiped From The Map In One Single Day
