about

I wrote this song a few years back, when I was inspired by a conversation I was having with a friend about fracking. He was very upset about the fact that fracking was happening in his region and he was stating how bad it was for the environment. During the conversation, I stated that coal was also very bad for the environment (since that would be one alternative to natural gas) and he said “fuck them, they can dig for coal down in West Virginia”. I was struck at the hypocrisy of the entire situation and it inspired me to write the song. I also had other examples of hypocrisy such as Robert F Kennedy being on record against windfarms in Nantucket Sound because it would be defacing the legendary Kennedy compound in Hyannis, MA. The bottom line is that energy is cheap right now…in order for the climate to improve will mean people will have to pay more for their energy source, and I am afraid it won’t happen anytime soon, sad to say.

lyrics

How Did You Get To This Place?
How Do You Light Up Your Space?
It Don’t Matter As Long As It’s Cheap

Burn That Coal In Some Other Place
Anti Fracking Signs In My Face
Just Not In My Backyard

Chorus:
Not In My Backyard
Not In My Backyard
Not In My Backyard

Windfarms For Clean, Green Power
RFK Is For The Towers
Just Not In Nantucket Sound

Burn That Coal To Feed The Grid
Don’t Do What You Just Done, Did
So Says Al From His 30,000 Foot Crib

Chorus

Hydrofracking Is A Swear Word
Nuclear Power Is For The Birds
Guess We Better Burn Some Trees

How Did You Get To This Place?
How Did You Light Up Your Space?
It Don’t Matter As Long As It’s Cheap

Chorus 2x
