How many times have you been to a gig to see a band and heard some clown yell out "Free Bird" as a request to the band playing on stage? For me, countless times and when it happened to Esquela in May 2011, I flipped off the audience member and told him there was his "free bird". He was surprised by my quick retort but I figured, that was no way to treat an audience member, no matter how disrespectful they were. There had to be a better way. Then it came to me: I should write a song called "Free Bird" and then whenever someone in the audience yells for the song "Free Bird" during one of our sets, we can at least play an original Esquela song! The rest is history...
