about

I wrote this song as a tribute to a good friend and talent, Keith Christopher. Keith and I logged a lot of hours playing together. Every band for whom I played bass, Keith either played guitar or drums for that band. There were at least five before we formed Esquela in 2008. When Keith lived in the East Village in the early Aughts, I would bring a few bottles of wine to his small apartment, and we would spend hours hanging out - playing, talking, laughing, all while Keith cooked dinner. Those were epic life and bass lessons.

lyrics

You Taught Me How To Write This Song
Gonna Miss You When You’re Gone
You Taught Me About Things In Life
Living, Learning And How To Survive

You Taught Me How To Fly Bat Blind
Even When The Sounds Weren’t Kind
I Always Listened To What You Said
You Always Got The Drummer Laid

Bridge:
I Didn’t Know A Key From A Note
You Taught Me Credence, Note For Note
I Didn’t Know A One From A Half
To You It Was Just Great Sounding Jazz

The Advice You Gave Often Sage
Even Though The Bottle Is Your Cane
I Realize Now It Is Not Too Late
We Can All Change Our Own Fate

You Taught Me How To Write This Song
Gonna Miss You When You’re Gone
You Taught Me How To Write This Song
Gonna Miss You When You’re Gone
